The fore-fathers of the present Directors of the company originally belong to Pakistan. But they are settled in Morbi in Gujarat after partition. In search of business they have migrated to Surat and started their business here in 1948. The group has initially started grey cloth trading business. Formally they had started a firm in 1982 by incorporating M/s Sawlani Silk Mills. Thereafter in 1994-95, the group established one Partnership firm named as M/s Ambica Knitting Mills, wherein all the directors were Partners in HUF capacity. Thereafter in 2002-03 the group established another partnership firm named as M/s Satya International, and all the present directors were partners in that firm in Individual capacity. They are known in the market as SAWLANI group. They have decided to carry out the business in one name and selected the name SHANTAI as their brand. They had incorporated M/s Shantai Exim Ltd in 2004. The basic intention of forming the company was to merge all group firms/companies and to avail the benefits of economics of scale.

The group also diverted their business activity to real estate business during 1990. They have purchased many lands in 80’s. Looking to the growth of real estate they have also entered directly to that segment in 1990. They have constructed some reputed buildings of Surat namely Royal Palace, Royal Castle, Royal Nest, Agrasen Shopping Centre & Golden Point. Presently also 3 associate companies are engaged in that activity. The projects such as Royal Regency and Royal Paradise are recently constructed providing Luxurious Life Style.

In 2015, the company have  takeover Shantai Industries Limited
(formerly known as Wheel and Axle Textiles Limited),  having a business of Textiles Exports, having Registered Office at 820, Golden Point, Nr. Telephone Exchange, Begampura, Falsawadi, Surat. and Godown / Branch  at  Plot No-435 Sawlani Silk Mills Compound, GIDC, Pandesara, Surat-394221 in the state of Gujarat. This is a fully composite textile Group..

The company is managed by a Board of Directors comprising eminent businessmen and expert personnels. The Chairman of the Board is  Mr. Harish Fatandas Sawlani.
